PHP Betacode Script

The open source betacode.inc.php script provides functions for translating betacode into HTML unicode characters and back. The script is used on this website to make it easy to enter, and edit, polytonic Ancient Greek characters (for example: ἀ ἃ ή and , which are entered as a) a( h/ w=|) using a normal keyboard and a modern browser, irrespective of the computer or operating system being used.

A Koiné character generator has been set up, as a demonstration of the script, and as a general service to anyone needing to compose documents involving Koiné text. Comments on either application are invited. The script is freely available under the GPL license.

HTML and Unicode

As well as the fonts listed below, there is somewhere online (if you can find it) an excellent sans-serif Greek font called Galilee; it was designed for OHP use in teaching, and styled after Trebuchet.
